Everyone please welcome Mr. Finley!
He is a beautiful 6 year-old, long haired, red standard dachshund. He weighs around 23 pounds and could stand to lose a couple pounds to be at his ideal weight. Finley is blind and has been that way for about a year, from a condition known as SARDS (Sudden Acute Retinal Detachment). He gets around fine and after a while it's easy to forget he can't see. His new family will need a few extra precautions to keep him safe, but otherwise he's pretty easy to manage. He loves to be outside with his people and needs a fenced yard to safely roam freely.
Finley does startle easily and can get defensive around other dogs or children. His foster mom says he has done well with her two submissive female dogs, so with a careful introduction he may be okay in a home with another submissive dog (preferably female). Finley is reactive to other dogs when outside, so a fenced yard rather than leash walks is best for him. He has some shaved spots from injuries requiring stitches as a result of a recent fight with a large dog in his previous home.
He is the absolute sweetest boy with his people. He loves belly rubs, to snuggle, and to give gentle kisses. He really prefers to stay in the same room as his people most of the time, but he does do okay with being left alone when you are out of the house for short periods. He can tolerate a crate during this time, but at night he sleeps in the big bed with his people.
Finley is very well potty trained but may have an accident in the first day or two when adjusting to a new home.
Please let us know if you have an application on file or apply today for a chance at this super special boy!
