Everyone please welcome Mr. Max! He is a sweet, playful, goofy, beautiful, 7 year-old boy. He's really smart and loves to snuggle. Evenings on the couch are one of his favorite things. Max also loves to play with toys.
Max came to us with a back injury (IVDD) that left him temporarily unable to walk. He was almost recovered and then re-injured himself playing too soon. He is healing nicely and is expected to recover, although a full and complete recovery may take up to a year. He currently walks with a wobble and needs help to fully express his bladder, but he is getting better every day.
He is good about going potty outside but does have an occasional accident if he hasn’t gone out in a few hours. He loves to ride in a dog stroller, and should be able to resume leash walks soon. His new owner should be committed to helping him stay at a healthy weight and taking him to a chiropractor or for acupuncture if needed to minimize the chance of a recurrence of his IVDD.
Max should be in a home with few or no stairs, and with ramps to any furniture that he is allowed on. Max likes his crate and will happily sleep in it all night, but he also loves to sleep in the big bed. He needs a ramp from the bed to the floor so he doesn’t jump down.
Max likes other dogs, but cannot live with cats. Any dogs in the home should be under 25 pounds to minimize his risk of injury. Max’s new home should have no small kids. Middle school aged and up is fine.
Max has separation anxiety so his new owners should only leave him alone for short periods (4 hours or less). He does fine as long as someone is home with him. He loves everyone. Max should not live in a place with shared walls because he is a barker, especially when left alone. He sometimes barks the entire time he is left alone.
If Mr. Max seems like the dog for you, please fill out an application or let us know if you already have one on file!
