Mr. Willie is ready for his forever home!
Michigan and surrounding states only. Canada too!
This cutie is 13 years old, 11 lbs, and came to us from a neglect situation. He was missing hair over large portions of his body, was covered in painful scabs, and half of his teeth had fallen out from lack of dental care. Today, Willie is feeling like a new dog - his hair is almost completely back, his rotten teeth have been removed, and he can't wait to start the rest of his life with his forever family! He loves companionship, cuddles, walks, and other dogs.
Mr. Willie has a thyroid condition that will require him to be on medication for the rest of his life, luckily it only costs about $10 a month! He has 12 teeth left, so he needs to be fed soft food. This is not negotiable, and his new family needs to be committed to taking care of those teeth with regular brushings. When Mr. Willie first came into rescue, he was not potty trained. This has improved greatly with being neutered and being kept on a schedule. Accidents are likely while he is transitioning to his new home, and during long stretches of time when he can't be let outside, but he has no problem wearing a belly band.
As much as he loves his people and other dogs, he is a total grumpy old man and he is growly and grumbly to express his displeasure - like being moved from a spot he has claimed, being told no, being looked at the wrong way. Because of this, we think he would do best in a home with no small children.
Mr. Willie gets anxious on car rides and can take a while to settle down. He is very vocal and likes to bark at noises, even if he's the only one who can hear them, so he would not be a great fit for an apartment or condo. He doesn't enjoy nail trims, but he will tolerate them with persistence.
Willie doesn't like to be alone, but a companion dog is enough to keep him company while family is away. If there is not another dog in the house, he will need to go to a home where people are home most of the time. Otherwise he howls and cries the whole time he is alone. He also hates crates, so those are a no-go, and he would prefer to sleep in bed with his people at night.
Willie's antics will bring joy and laughter to his new home!
