Miss Bindi is available for adoption!
Michigan and surrounding states, and Ontario, Canada near the Michigan border.
MUST BE AN ONLY PET!!! NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please read thoroughly before applying. We are going to be very picky about her adoption.
You may have seen Bindi's story on Facebook (check out #BindiStrong to see posts about her). Bindi came to the rescue after being mauled by another dog in her home. She had severe injuries to her upper jaw, snout, and skull. She has made a miraculous recovery, and is finally done with her medical care.
She is 8 years old and weighs 13 pounds. She is spayed and up to date on vaccines. In conjunction with her jaw repairs, she had a dental where several of her teeth were removed, but she has quite a few left. Her dental surgeon wants her to eat kibble to keep her jaw strong. She may need to occasionally have antibiotics for sinus issues.
Bindi enjoys soft toys and to sleep in the big bed with her people. She's goofy and opinionated like a typical Dachshund. She likes to play, chase chipmunks, give soft kisses, and nap on your lap. She loves bananas, blueberries, and frozen peas.
She prefers not to be in a crate at home, but will travel well in one when in the car. She does fine being left for 4-6 hours during the day and will use potty pads if you aren't home when she needs to go out. She does ask to go out when you are home.
Bindi is very reactive to other dogs and people when out on walks, but does respond to positive reinforcement and it's getting a bit better. Treats are the way to her heart.
Because of the risk of her getting injured again, she must be the only pet in the home. Her prey drive is pretty high, so no cats, please. She has an extremely loud bark, so no apartments or apartment style condos with shared walls.
She likes to go outside, but must either be on a leash with a harness or in a fenced yard. She could get tangled in a tie out too easily if she sees someone walking by and gets excited. A fenced yard is preferred but not required as long as you are committed to several leash walks per day.
She is sometimes reactive to men and masculine presenting women, but she warms up eventually. Her ideal home would not have a lot of people coming in and out throughout the day. Teenagers and older are okay but no young children. Fast movements make her nervous.
She is currently taking fluoxetine (Prozac) for her reactivity and may need to continue on this long term if it is successful. It's about 40 cents per day from Chewy at her current dose.
