SIMBA IS READY FOR HIS FUREVER HOME!
PLEASE READ BIOGRAPHY THROUGHLY
Michigan and surrounding states only. Canada too!
He is a 6.5 year old, 18lb, dachshund mix. Simba came to us because he was too anxious around the toddler in his home, so he will need to go to a family that does not have young children living in the house or visiting regularly. He has only been in his foster home for a couple weeks, so we are still getting to know him, but he is fully vetted, healthy, and ready start the search!
Simba needs to go to a home that is experienced with nervous/anxious dogs and is willing to work with him on training - he seems very eager to learn! He knows basic commands and tricks and he likes to play with stuffed toys. He has not lived with any other pets previously, but there is a small dachshund in his foster home and they have been getting along well after a slow introduction period. He is completely potty trained and loves time in his yard and he doesn’t mind the rain! He has not chewed on or gotten into anything he should not - however, he will chew on leashes if they are left on him when no one is watching. While he would prefer to be in a home with someone who is home most of the time, he is very independent and can be left alone. Simba is a vocal dog - he will bark at people, dogs, and vehicles walking by his window at home or in the car. Simba sleeps very well at night and is used to sleeping on his own in a dog bed, but he also likes to sleep in bed with his people.
Decompression will be critical for his successful transition into a new home because he is very scared of new people and new animals. It would be best that his new home not have a lot of new visitors, and they need to understand that he will need to be watched closely anytime he has the chance to encounter new people. He is territorial and protective of his food and his toys. Simba is crate trained, but can also be very territorial of that space, and has been most successful in his foster home without access to a crate. He enjoys going on walks, but as with most things, he is nervous about new people, dogs, and noises, so he needs a secure harness and is still learning not to pull. He rides well in a car. He was very nervous at his vet appointment, but he took a trazadone before going and was held by his foster mom and he let the vet do his full exam, injections, and nails without any issues.
